Do you need music notation software? Do you want to enter songs, lead sheets, or guitar sheet music—or would you rather have guitar and bass tablature, piano, saxophone, or drums…?
Do you write scores and want to quickly transpose some instruments to other keys? Do you need a PDF file, a MIDI file, and maybe an MP3 file?
— MuseScore can do all of this and much more.
(Note: Please don’t confuse the two; the MuseScore music notation app is free, but don’t confuse it with the MuseScore library, which costs money. So if you want to download sheet music from MuseScore, it currently costs about €50 per year—if you catch a sale. MuseScore frequently offers discounts of about “70% to 90%” off. So it could also cost more.)
! MuseScore must already be installed on your computer ! I recommend MuseScore 4.7.4 (preferably downloaded without the hub) or an older version 3.6.2
The “MuseScore” app for creating and editing sheet music is ONLY available on: Linux, Mac, and Windows PCs or laptops.
(On tablets and smartphones, you can view and listen to sheet music, but you cannot edit it.)
MuseScore is best understood as a “step-by-step” method of entering sheet music (i.e., note by note); although it is possible to enter notes using a piano keyboard, this cannot be done in “real time.”
For this course, you’ll need a laptop or notebook
