DJing workshops and practice rooms are often difficult to access and not available to everyone. We often don’t know how and where to start, what opportunities there are and where they take place – especially if we don’t already have networks and connections in the scene.
As Flinta*, we often don’t feel comfortable, treated appropriately or taken seriously in male-dominated spaces.
Furthermore, as non-white people in white-dominated spaces, we experience additional discrimination and challenges that are often not voiced. For various reasons, we cannot identify with the spaces, do not dare to express this to
and adapt in order to avoid conflict. We often even avoid such spaces altogether in order to avoid this additional burden. Here you can be yourself!
What do we do in the workshop?
– Exchange/get to know each other
– Basics of beatmatching/transitions of all kinds
– What do I need/where do I get it from?
– Where do I download my music/library/DJ programs
– We try to clarify all technical questions
– The most important thing:
– We have fun and DJ together with cool music!
There will be Afghan tea, other drinks and snacks!
DJing workshops and practice spaces are often hard to access and not available to everyone.
Many of us don’t know where or how to start, what opportunities exist, or where they take place-especially if we don’t already have connections or networks within the scene.
For many of us, who navigate male-dominated spaces, it often doesn’t feel comfortable to be taken seriously or treated with respect. This feeling of insecurity and exclusion can make it much harder to get involved.
Furthermore, non-white individuals face additional discrimination and challenges in predominantly white spaces, which are often left unspoken. We may not feel empowered to voice these issues, or we may adapt ourselves in order to avoid conflict. In many cases, we even avoid entering these spaces altogether to escape the added burden. Here you can be yourself!
